About the Pathcare Learnership Programme

This internship programme (Further Education and Training Certificate: Phlebotomy Techniques, NQF level 4), offered by PathCare Academy, is designed to prepare individuals to work as phlebotomy technicians. Since its establishment, when it accepted the first Phlebotomy Technician Learners from South Africa, the Academy has delivered the two-year programme with great success. The development of this certification was spearheaded by PathCare, with funding from the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA). Running as a learnership under the auspices of the HWSETA, the qualification has been authorised and approved by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

Pathcare Phlebotomy Learnership Requirements

  • Specific requirements: June 2024 results: Life Science/Biology ≥ 50% WITH Mathematics ≥ 40% or Math Literacy ≥ 60%.
  • Read, write and speak English fluently
  • Read, write and understand basic Afrikaans
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to work under pressure and study rigorously
  • Possess a well developed work ethic
  • Willing to collect and/or process blood and body products
  • Ability to provide excellent service and be responsive to customer needs
  • Willingness to work shifts and after hours as required

Selection Process

The competitive selection process will include:

  • Screening of applications and academic results
  • Selected candidates will be shortlisted and invited to undergo online proficiency tests
  • Highest scoring candidates on the above will be invited to attend panel interviews

How to apply?

Theoretical training will take place at the PathCare Academy campuses in Cape Town, Bloemfontein and Pretoria and the practical training will be offered at PathCare depots at various locations around the country.
